5th and 6th (and 10th) May 2001

Back to diary

It has been a while since I last updated the website this is due to other commitments and the fact that on the wildlife front there has not been a lot to report. All the tadpoles have now disappeared but the newt population is pretty impressive. Deduce whatever you feel from these two facts.

The pond has cleared down now (I told sue that it would) and most of the plants that we have added are showing reasonable growth with the Lily's managing to penetrate the surface along with the Arrowhead. The Brooklime has come into flower but we have lost a couple of plants that we will have to replace before the Summer takes hold.

The reference to the 10th May was the fact that we spent an hour in the garden this evening and saw our first bats of the year. I had built (from a kit -£25) a bat detector/listener and it was great fun using it. The best thing was that you could hear the bats before you could see them. Much fun!

Anyway here are some pictures for you to see how the garden is progressing

Pond

As you can see the pond is looking a little more established. I reckon another month and it will be fine

Lily

Ok, it's not very exciting...just a lily pad

Bluebells

At the far end of the wildlife garden in front of the hedge are some bluebells. These were here before we moved into the house and the garden was sort of built around them!

Hedge

You can see that the hedge is now looking quite full.

View from far end

You can see the Bluebells at the bottom right and the pond in the distance. Most of the trees are now coming into full leaf.
